Word of God, you have many things to say to us, some of which are hard to bear. We yearn to be guided into truth, but dread the uncertain claims such truth may have upon us and our church. We long to taste your Spirit, but prefer it bless what we are already doing. We strive to be faithful, but are lured by convenience and glamour. Center us. Help us sense your love and purpose for our lives and the life of the world you love. We ask that in the midst of suffering, you would bring hope; in the midst of illness, confidence; in the midst of violence, healing; in the midst of poverty, justice; and in the midst of war, reconciliation.
