Weather Closing Policy

Weather Closing Policy

How do you know if Sunday worship service, Sunday school, and other activities have been cancelled when there's bad weather? The fastest and most reliable way to get that information is by checking the church's web site: http://www.stilwellumc.org/ or by calling the church at (913) 897-2101.

A decision about the 9:30 a.m. Sunday worship service and the 10:45 a.m. Sunday school classes will be made by 7:00 p.m. Saturday. If the decision is made to cancel the worship service and Sunday school, that information will be posted on the church web site and recorded on the church voicemail. You should be able to get news about Sunday’s service on Saturday evening. If time allows, a Phone Tree message will be sent to all current Phone Tree database members.

Depending upon the severity of the weather, a decision about Sunday evening activities may be delayed until Sunday morning. If that's the case, the closing information will be posted by noon Sunday.

Closing information is available on the local TV station local Fox network. However, sometimes that information is delayed, due to the number of churches calling in to report their closings.

The same process is used for closing decisions during the week, although the time schedule varies depending upon the situation.

The chair of the Trustees and the Senior Pastor (with additional conversation with key leaders as needed) make the decision about cancellations.
